Counting Activity
Ask your child to count 24 objects on the worksheet, say the number word "twenty-four" aloud, then trace the number before writing it independently on the practice lines.
Understanding 24: Two Tens and Four Ones
The number 24 is made from 20 and 4. Two groups of ten represent the digit 2 in the tens place, and four extra objects represent the digit 4 in the ones place.
After counting two full groups to 20, count on 21, 22, 23, 24. This demonstrates that 24 follows 23 and comes immediately before 25.
Arrange 24 Objects in Four Rows of Six
Use blocks, crayons or large counters to organise 24 objects into a pattern that is easy to check.
- Place six objects in the first row.
- Repeat until there are four rows with six objects in each row.
- Count every row from left to right to reach 24.
- Count the rows in a different order and check that the total stays the same.
