Counting Activity
Ask your child to count 22 objects on the worksheet, say the number word "twenty-two" aloud, then trace the number before writing it independently on the practice lines.
Understanding 22: Two Tens and Two Ones
The number 22 contains two tens and two ones. Make two groups of ten objects, then add two extra objects. The first digit tells us about the tens and the second digit tells us about the ones.
Count to 20 in the two groups, then say 21 and 22 as the two extra objects are added. Children can also see that 22 is one more than 21 and one less than 23.
Build Two Matching Rows of Eleven
Collect 22 safe objects and use a clear table or floor space where two rows can be compared.
- Count 11 objects into the first row.
- Count another 11 objects into a second row.
- Line up the rows so that every object has a partner.
- Count both rows together to check the total is 22.
- Add one object to make 23, then remove it to return to 22.
