The number 13 represents thirteen items and its number word is “thirteen”. It follows 12 and precedes 14. It is made from one group of ten and three extra ones.
Build Ten Plus Three
Use thirteen counters and separate the complete ten from the extra ones.
- Make a row or frame containing ten counters.
- Place three loose counters beside it.
- Point to the extras while counting on: 11, 12, 13.
Remove one extra to make 12, then replace it and add another to make 14.
How to Write Number 13
Write 1 first with a straight downward stroke. Write 3 to its right using two connected curves that open towards the left.
